MINISTRY OF HEALTH RELEASED RESTRICTIONS ON RETAIL SALES AND ACCOMMODATION PROVIDERS

 

On March 26, 2020, the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic (hereinafter referred to as the “Ministry”) adopted an emergency measure in accordance with the relevant provisions of Act No. 258/2000 Coll., on public health protection, updating its previously issued measures (hereinafter the “Measure“). The Measure was issued for the period from March 27, 2020, 6:00 AM to April 1, 2020, 6 AM.

 

According to the Ministry, the current ban on retail sale and sale of services in business premises newly does not apply to locksmithing and servicing of other household products, repairs, maintenance and installation of household machinery and equipment, car washes and funeral activities.

 

Furthermore, the current ban also does not apply to the sale and provision of accommodation services to (i) persons for the purpose of their profession and (ii) foreigners until they leave the Czech Republic or foreigners with a work permit in the Czech Republic.

 

 

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC APPROVED CARETAKING COMPENSATION FOR SELF-EMPLOYED

On March 26, 2020, representatives of the Government of the Czech Republic (hereinafter referred to as the “Government”) informed that the Government approved caretaking compensation for self-employed persons. The Ministry of Industry and Trade intends to support self-employed persons who, due to extraordinary measures that closed primary and secondary schools, had to stop their business because of the need to care for their children.

 

According to a document published on the Ministry of Industry and Trade website, the self-employed will receive a compensation of CZK 424 per day (i.e. a maximum of CZK 13,144 per month) for the care of a family member. The applications (also in an electronic form) for the compensation may be submitted to any trade licensing office (Živnostenský úřad). However, it will be necessary to apply for the compensation every calendar month. The compensation will then be sent to the bank account specified in the application.

 

A self-employed person who cares for a child who attends school or other children’s facilities (kindergarten etc.) and is under the age of 13, can apply for the compensation, provided that no other person receives this compensation or any other compensatory allowance for the same child.

 

 

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC CONSIDERS DIRECT FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO SELF-EMPLOYED

Minister of Finance Alena Schillerová presented the intention of extraordinary financial support for the self-employed persons affected by the adopted emergency restrictions.

 

According to the minister, the self-employed who have been prevented from doing business as a result of emergency measures against the spread of coronavirus will be paid monthly support of CZK 15,000 for the duration of their business restrictions. At the same time, the minister also stated that the support should belong only to persons whose source of income is solely from their business. The contribution will be paid by the Financial Administration. Additional terms shall be published in the upcoming days.
