Bio

Pavol Kehl studied law at the Charles University in Prague. He also studied at Háskoli Island (in Iceland) as a participant in the ERASMUS program in 2008-09. After finishing his univeristy studies, he joined the law firm Čechovský & Václavek in a junior position. Since 2015 he has been a fully qualified attorney registered with the Czech Bar Association. He is now a senior lawyer with Rutland & Partners law firm.

Eight years of practical experience with hundreds of clients has made him an expert in the field of immigration law and criminal law. He prepares application and appeals, dealing with clients whose legal status in the Czech Republic is in question or whose legal residence the Ministry of Interior seeks to revoke. He also handles asylum applications and detention issues. He has practical experience with hundreds of appeals of decisions by the Ministry of Interior and the Foreign Police all around the Czech Republic. That experience is probably his most valuable asset, since many clients’ situations are similar and he can accurately predict the chances for a positive outcome of a process. He has prepared appeals for many different types of immigration status—long term residence, permanent residence, blue cards and employee cards, etc. Even when a client turns to him late in the game, he is skilled in strategies to overturn declined appeals allowing the client to remain in residence with a “bridge visa” until the immigration process is complete. He has helped many clients targeted by the Ministry of Interior when an order to depart the Czech Republic has been unlawfully issued.

He has prepared dozens of appeals of adverse decisions on:
• Long term residence (for all purposes: study, business, family reunification, etc.)
• Employee cards (together with appeals of negative decisions on applications for change of employer or job and for taking employment in an additional job)
• Temporary residence of EU citizens
• Permanent residence for both EU and non-EU citizens
• Blue cards
• Deportations
• Detention related to deportation
• Decisions on an obligation to leave the Czech republic
• Asylum claims

He has prepared and litigated appeals to the Czech courts after final decisions by the Ministry of Interior in all the above areas.

Pavol is also an expert on criminal law, dealing mostly with drug offences, DWI, and assaults. It is very important to deal with criminal issues properly, since that can cause difficulties with immigration status. In other words, the best solution for a Czech citizen involved in a criminal proceeding may not be the best one for an expat, since their intention is also to keep their right to residence safe.
